If we can "prove" the efficacy of the slides now or their falsity, we are purposed to do so.

Phil Plait (Worst...I mean Bad Astronomer) was talking about the new Mercury Messenger photos on Twitter the other day and I decided to focus on them a bit. He constantly says NASA has nothing to hide, yet we constantly get fuzzy photos of distant planets with black rectangles cut out of them.

I looked over this recent Mercury Messenger photo and found many new faces right next to one another. The smallest is sitting in a crater bed. The other three look like a guerrilla, Elf with giant eyes and a Yoda like face with body.

The faces were intriguing, yet not what kept my attention. What I notices was a rusted away hull of a surface area of Mercury that seems to be broken and exposed...as if it were a giant city under the same roof. If you have ever seen the movie Matrix, then you might have an idea what this city might look like walking through. I would really like to see the rest of the map that was cut out and kept from us (the black rectangle areas).Also can you see the face below? The eroding roof of the city.

Continuing my cryptozoological kick, I wish to take a look at yet another rather elusive cryptid that made a small splash on the paranormal scene and left just as suddenly as it appeared. Even years later the witnesses are stunned by what they encountered that night. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's take a trip back in time to April 21, 1977 and the town of Dover, Massachusetts.

Around 10:30 pm the night of April 21, 1977 three teenage boys were driving along an area outside of a bar when their headlights illuminated a bizarre creature that appeared to be crawling along a wall near Farm Street. Originally one of the witness, Bill Bartlett, thought that they were looking at what could have been a dog or cat. Yet as he got a better look at IT he quickly realized this was no creature he had ever seen before. Later Bartlett would be quoted as saying

"It was not a dog or a cat. It had no tail. It had an egg-shaped head. It looked like a baby's body with long arms and legs. It had a big head about the same size as the body, it was sort of melon shaped. The color of it was... the color of people in the Sunday comics."

The witness was unable to see anything that resembled a nose, ears, or a mouth on the creature. It's also interesting to note that evidently the driver, Bartlett, was the only one of the three in the vehicle who was able to see the creature as his two friends were too busy laughing and talking to notice it. Once Bartlett had returned home he drew a sketch of the creature that he had seen.

This was not to be the last sighting of the mysterious creature however. About an hour after Bartlett sighted the creature, John Baxter aged 15 was walking home from his girlfriends house when he saw what he at first took to be a child. The thought initially struck Baxter that it could be a local child that he knew who suffered from a disability. He began to follow it seeing if the child perhaps needed help of some kind. As he attempted to catch up to the "child", he soon lost sight of it. After stopping a moment in order to catch his breath, Baxter looked across at a gully and finally caught sight of the "child" he had been trying to catch up to. The creature that his eyes fell on matched in description exactly that given by Bartlett. The long, slender armed and fingered creature with the giant bulbous head. In his own words Baxter had this to say:

"As I was looking really close there I could see the eyes it was looking at me I just stared at it for another few minutes and then I just got all these thoughts that maybe it was something really strange. 'Cause, you know, nothing ever happened to me like this before, so I didn't know what to think."

"So I finally got the thought that maybe it wasn't as safe as it looked, 'cause the way it was staring at me it just seemed like it was- I don't know. I got all these feelings that it was thinking to itself, or waiting to spring, or whatever, you know? And so I backed up the bank kind of fast, and my heart started beating really fast!" The final sighting of the creature occurred the following night, sometime around midnight. Will Taintor, 18, was driving his girlfriend Abby Brabham, 15, home when Abby spotted something on the side of Springdale Avenue. According to Brabham:"As I looked at it... it kind of looked a minute like an ape. And then I looked at the head and the head was very big and it was a very weird head It had bright green eyes and the eyes just glowed like, they were just looking exactly at me"

Within a week investigators Loren Coleman, Ed Fogg, Walter N Webb were on the scene investigating the sightings. In fact Loren Coleman, who not only investigated all of the primary witness firsthand, is credited with giving the creature its name "Dover Demon". After interviewing all of the witness, the investigators came to the following conclusion on the events:'We have a credible case, over 25 hours, by individuals who saw something. Nothing quite like the Demon has been reported seen before or since. The Dover creature does not match the descriptions of the Chupacabras, or of Roswell aliens, or of the bat-eared (Hopkinsville Goblins) said to have attacked a family in Hopkinsville, Ky., in 1955... it doesn't really fit any place. It's extremely unique. It has no real connections to any other inexplicable phenomena. I think the Dover Demon's mystery lives on. 'Loren Coleman also appeared on Animal Planet's Lost Tapes "television show that discussed the Dover Demon. Below is a clip of that show for you to check out.

The final piece of information I will leave with is this "Boston Globe" article from 2006 in which the then 46 year old Bartlett was interviewed about the strange sighting that he had had some 29 years prior. From that article:

Dover--Twenty-nine years later, William Bartlett stands by his story of what he saw on Farm Street that night. It was an eerie human-like creature, he said, about 4 feet tall with glowing orange eyes and no nose or mouth in a watermelon-shaped head.

'I have no idea what it was,' Bartlett, now a 46-year-old artist living in Needham, said in a recent interview. 'I definitely know I saw something.'

The 'Dover Demon' that Bartlett and two other teenagers reported seeing over a two-day span in April 1977 has since gained worldwide attention, not unlike Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, and the Latin American goat-sucker, the chupacabra. Internet pages are devoted to the Dover Demon. You can play a video game featuring the creature, or buy a figurine of it as far away as Japan.

'In a lot of ways it's kind of embarrassing to me,' said Bartlett. 'I definitely saw something. It was definitely weird. I didn't make it up. Sometimes I wish I had.'

He has made a career as a painter, his work displayed in galleries on both coasts, but a Google search on 'Bill Bartlett,' he noted, invariably turns up his teenage encounter with the unknown.

Once, his wife, Gwen, browsing the horror section of a bookstore, flipped open an encyclopedia of monsters - and there was an entry about her husband and the Dover Demon.

'It's a thing that's been following me for years,' Bartlett said. 'Not the creature - the story. Sometimes I dread every Halloween getting calls about it.'

Writing in the 1999 2nd edition of his "Unexplained!,"Jerry Clark notes that Martin S Kottmeyer has a possible explanation for what the teenagers saw those nights. Clark writes:

Martin S Kottmeyer has suggested that the witnesses were seriously mistaken about what they saw, and he knows what the Dover Demon may have been: a young moose.... He notes, "Bartlett's placing o fthe eyes matches the placement just above the hip of the muzzle on a moose's head. The lack of a discernable nose and mouth is easily laid to the fact that nostrils and mouth are very far down on the muzzle. A drawing of a young moose presents ears swept back along the line of the head and would not discernably stick out, thus accounting for the absence of visible ears." (pg 415)

So what do you think? Was it a misidentified, but still wholly mundane, animal? An alien out for a little recon mission? Personally I'm not sure what to make of it. Unlike many of the cryptid stories that have circulated for years the Dover Demon had a mere 25 hour splash on history. Whereas Bigfoot has been seen for hundreds of years, if not more, to the best of my knowledge the Dover Demon was only sighted over the period of April 21 to 22 and no more. I don't think the kids made it up, after all it seems to have had a profound impact on Bartlett at least. Posted: December 29, 2007Date: 1970'sHi I just read your article on the UFO sightings in the area back in the 70's. Before my Dad passed away I remember him talking about a friend of his that was a police officer in Texico. I don't remember his name, but the story was that he was called to the high school to investigate lights on the roof of the school. From what my Dad had said, is that high schoolers would on occasion clown around on the roof so he was to shoo them away. When he arrived he described what he thought were flashlights on the roof but he couldn't see anyone holding the lights and that they came down to the ground a little distance from him then flew away. That's all I remember my Dad telling me because that was some years ago. Also I personally have some pictures that I took 2 summers ago in Portales which is 20 miles from Clovis. Nobody I talked to about these pictures seemed to believe me and they did not come out as well as I would have liked. I can send them to you if you like just so you can see the light I saw. There were approximately 40 people who, at 12:05 a.m. saw 3 yellow/orange star like lights go past. They were in a perfect large diamond shape. There were 3 more that followed them in a perfect spaced straight line. They seemed close to us and the downtown area of Barrie, yet no one who saw them heard any sounds of a motor or propeller. A reply to my recent blog post about UFO report numbers being way down in Canada in 2009 sent me surfing to the GEIPAN website. (GEIPAN is the French equivalent of Ufology Research, receiving official and civilian UFO cases for investigation and study.)

Sure enough, 2009 UFO report numbers were about a quarter of that from the year before. In fact, 2007 and 2008 were significantly higher than the yearly norm, which makes the 10 or so cases in 2009 seem fewer than what you think they might be.

As of August 2009, there were only 5 UFO reports in France, compared with 44 in all of 2008 and 40 in 2007, but only 7 in 2006 and 13 in 2005.

If anything, the surge in 2008 for both Canada and France might be fuel for those who would link UFO report numbers with the stock market. It's been proposed before that UFO reports are inversely related to the economy. Stock market rises, UFO report numbers go down. Stock market plummets, UFO report numbers skyrocket.

Trouble is, the yearly fluctuations don't seem to work if you go back a decade or two. Maybe there are additional factors, but so far it's just an interesting coincidence.

UFO SIGHTING IN SIDNEY, OHIO ON AUGUST 28TH 2013 - A LINE OF 24 FLYING OBJECTS HEADING FROM EAST TO WEST

Outside my windows, I noticed a rather tight triangle formation of 3 red lights in the east. I have been to, at least, 2 dozen airshows so it was quite unusual for me to see a tight triangle formation of aircraft. So, I went outside to see what type of airplane was flying, but I did not hear a sound. The clouds were low and with a wind blowing in a NE direction about 10 mph ( gusts up to 22 according to my cell phone. I sat and watched the triangle formation of lights become a string when all of a sudden the first light faded out. Now, it could have been the low clouds. At least that is what my mind told me. However, the next two lights also faded out at different spots in the sky. So I thought "that was weird!" when I looked back to the east, I saw more of these red dots in the sky. 3... 4... 5... The numbers were growing. They all were traveling East to Northwest. On average, it would take about a 2 minutes for this lights to go from the horizon to over head to out of sight. I was actually, able to go into the house, grab my camera, tri-pod and my binoculars. However, the pictures that I took are still blurry. When I viewed the objects thru my binoculars, they appeared to be red rings. All in all, counted at least 24 objects in the sky. All of which were dead quite. In all, this viewing lasted about 20 minutes.

"I recently heard from a friend about some UFO experiences she encountered. In her email to me, she wrote the following:"

"... re: UFOs....I've seen a few in daylight and quite a few in the night-time sky.... I saw a disc and a large triangular shaped ship in the Sedona, AZ area - the triangular one when out walking on Oak Creek and the disc coming back to Sedona from Cottonwood....there's short stories "[see below]" connected to those; and i saw one disc right outside the window of the airplane I was traveling in going from DC to CA right after we'd gone over the Grand Canyon on a clear turquoise blue-sky day....it was darting from cloud-bank to cloud-bank alongside our plane as we flew thru space...

When I was with the Navajo Elders once, up in the high canyons of the southwest, we'd sit out by the fire at night before bedding down and they'd tell us stories....One night they began to point out the various lights in the canyons and in the sky.

They'd identify the different lights as: ancestors, guardians of a particular area or canyon, and "star people" (they knew who was who in the light-world)....You can recognize the "star people" at night - high up in the sky usually or coming down 'across' the sky - by the zigzag pattern they take, darting across the sky from point a to point b in a zigzag pattern.....A pilot from the Air Force told me once that they use the zigzag pattern to come into our atmosphere as they go thru the dimensional doorways/portals so as not to negatively affect the atmosphere causing harm to our environment or to their aircraft." ~ A. After asking permission from my friend and also asking her to expand on the two stories, she responded with the permission and also the following two stories of UFO encounters.

Story one: Sedona

"I was out on Oak Creek - one of my favorite places - in Sedona, taking a walk along the path. I was observing the different trees, plants, and wildlife I encountered along the way. At one point I saw what I thought was an insect darting about in the sky above my head. I saw flashes of light and assumed it was the sun reflecting off of it's wings as it bounced about.

"I looked closer and focused in on it, thinking at the same time - 'what the heck are YOU?!'.....When i put out that thought (and i'm not exaggerating or embellishing this story) the bouncey thing answered my question and literally came down into my mind's eye, right up close and personal, and clearly showed itself to be a very large, black, triangular shaped ship.

Woh! That startled me, to say the least!...As soon as i'd registered that what i was looking at was NOT an insect just over my head but some kind of ufo way out there in the sky above me, it resumed it's "place" as high up above me rather than up close and personal where i could clearly see what it was. I had tobacco with me and i stepped off the path into an open place in the rocks, out of sight, and began to turn the 4 directions calling in the ancestors and helpers and praying to God.

I asked for protection and support and i turned my back on that 'object' and it's inhabitants, having no intention to be "picked up" and i said so. I'll wait for the B'nai Or, tyvm! and the lightships. I have no desire to ride along in a heavy metal vehicle and i do know there is a difference. I put forth that thought and intention banishing fear from my auric field, and i felt the energy shift and retreat. I continued my walk along the path chanting a song i'd been taught for such occasions and i resumed my journey, enjoying the beauty all around me and pondering the mysteries of this life.

Story two:

One morning i drove over to Cottonwood from Sedona to do some shopping at the local area Wally-world. As i began my return trip driving across the deserted strip from Cottonwood to Sedona, i was watching the sky as i often do for raptors and other birds. I love birds and especially eagles and hawks and often see them on my travels. Since the road was deserted on this clear, sunshiny day, i was taking my time. There is a particular outcropping of rocks and a mountainous formation that juts up out of the desert landscape between Cottonwood and Sedona. It is the only one out there so rather noticeable.

As i neared that area, i clearly saw a large silver disc appear from my right up in the sky. It flew low over my car, straight toward the mountain that was coming up on my left in the distance from the road. I slowed down and watched. That disc flew directly INTO the mountain....NOT "between" rocks or parts of the mountain's rocky surface but directly INTO the face of that mountain! I was astonished and amazed. Wow!...add it to the list of mysteries in Great Mystery's storybook and i got to witness it that day.
