If you have more than just a passing interest in UFOs, then you have probably heard many times, the historical spectrum of events that make up the whole of UFO mythology. It began as many believe, in days past with extraterrestrial visitation to the great civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt, supplemented by periodic revisits through the millennia until the World War 2 era when the foo fighters arrived on the scene, followed by the 1946 Ghost Rockets and the 1947 Maury Island incident, Kenneth Arnold's sighting, and the universally known, Roswell incident.

But the story I am about to tell you focuses on just one of these events - the 1946 ghost rockets and their inextricable link to a man who chose to engage in the second oldest profession in the world, espionage. That man's name is Stig Wennerstr"om, and in 1963 he was arrested in his native Sweden, accused of being a Soviet spy. Indeed, Mr. Wennerstr"om, a well-known and liked Swedish Air Force officer, had been working as a Soviet spy since 1948, selling some of his country's most valuable secrets to the Russians. When he was finally caught, the shock waves of his betrayal reverberated throughout Sweden and all the way to the United States as Mr. Wennerstr"om had been posted during his traitorous tenure as the Swedish military attach'e in both Moscow and Washington.

I am not going to recount Mr. Wennerstr"om's spying exploits on behalf of the Soviets, but instead on some spying that he did for the Americans, starting with a mission he was sent on in 1946.

The mission is detailed in a couple of books, one originally written in Swedish before being translated into English. In the book "A Spy without a Country" by H. K. Ronblom, the author details Wennerstr"om's mission on behalf of the Americans:

In 1946, the (Swedish) Air Force received an invitation-the first of its kind-to send its own representative to a Russian air display outside Moscow at which the new Russian jet aircraft would be demonstrated. Wennerstr"om had had something to do with this business in its initial stages-it was his good friend, Lieutenant Colonel Rybachenkov of the Soviet Embassy who arranged the invitation-and it was he who was picked to attend on behalf of the (Swedish) Air Force.

Sometime in the summer of 1946, before he attended the air display in Moscow, Wennerstr"om was invited (in Stockholm) to his friend's the American air attach'e. Among the guests was someone in civilian clothes whom Wennerstr"om did not know, but this was soon put right when the man in civilian clothes introduced himself as an American intelligence service man and started telling Wennerstr"om what the Gehlen's organizational papers said about him. Wennerstr"om told his interrogators that he accepted the assignment and mailed the parcel - which he understood to contain radio tubes, or some sort of equipment that might be used in a clandestine radio transmitter - without difficulty. On his return to Stockholm, he said, he had no further contact with the presumed American agent, and his close relations with both the American and the Soviet embassies continued pretty much as before.Wennerstr"om's tale of delivering a package in Leningrad was considered implausible by author Whiteside who commented:

In any case, most sources, inside and outside the Pentagon, agree that, whether or not Wennerstr"om actually was approached by an American agent in Stockholm in 1946, his story of his American Intelligence mission to Leningrad is, at best, a dubious one, and may very well have been part of an attempt to throw dust in the eyes of his interrogators. Such a mission, these sources say, would have been contrary to every security practice of American Intelligence.Although Wennerstr"om was hiding the real nature of his mission to Moscow, the details came spilling out in declassified American documents. On August 19, 1946, a Top Secret message from the US military attach'e Moscow, Robert C. Macon to General Chamberlin of the War Department revealed that a Swedish Air Officer, Major S. Wennerstr"om, was in Moscow on a 3 day official visit for a Soviet airshow and had information to share on the (ghost) rockets.

Wennerstr"om revealed that 200 flying bombs had passed over Swedish territory traveling south to north, some on a zig zag course. Radar plotting indicated that most came from Peenem"unde, but some from the Soviet Baltic coastal area. Only one curved east towards Norway while all others curved west. The missiles are not V1 but similar and slightly larger, are radio controlled, with no warhead except to self-destruct. They have been seen as high as 1000 and as low as 15 meters, travelling at 400 to 600 kilometers per hour and appeared to be under good control. The max plotted course was 1000 kilometers and could have been longer but there was no Swedish plotting station in the far north. No reports of missiles over Finland and have probably fallen in the Bothnia Gulf.

Wright, subject: "Sweden Guided Missiles", the following very interesting observations are made about Wennerstr"om's trip to Moscow:

Swedish intelligence officers have passed information to U.S. intelligence officers both in Stockholm and in Moscow (Wennerstr"om) which indicate an attempt to 'plant' the impression that large numbers of Russian-launched rockets have passed over Sweden, giving detail to infer that they are extremely efficient guided missile. The Swedish intelligence officer who 'planted' this information in Moscow (Wennerstr"om) also intimated that Russian uranium mining activities and launching sites were being developed, giving the implication of atomic warfare with radio-controlled guided missiles. A Swedish intelligence officer also 'planted' a similar report of Russian rockets with the S.S.U (CIG, then CIA) in Stockholm.What is most interesting about this memorandum is the repeated use of the word 'planted' by the very astute and experienced-in-intelligence-matters attach'e who could see right through what Wennerstr"om and his Swedish colleagues were up to - what other Secret memorandum would reveal was the wholesale spreading of unsubstantiated rumors about the Ghost Rockets. What attach'e Wright could not know at that time was that the true hand that was being played here was not Swedish but American.

But why would some elements of American intelligence entice Swedish intelligence to deceive other American intelligence personnel? Welcome to 1946, the Wild West era of US intelligence history, where the American intelligence community was in a state of flux while fears of Soviet infiltration of all aspects of American life was rampant. If there was ever a time when the maxim "Trust no one" was most relevant, 1946 was that year.

By planting rumors of Russian missiles over Scandinavia that appeared to originate from Swedish intelligence but was ultimately directed by elements of American and quite probably British intelligence, the Soviet Union was blamed for flagrant violations of the sovereign airspace of its neighbors, creating a media storm and backlash of world opinion that has since been immortalized as unexplained UFO events.

I have just posted something on your Facebook page but was only able to post a couple of pics I will try here I noticed that about that my post duplicated itself sorry. I have had 5 encounters with them 3 yes I saw them hovering above my head. I know that they are observing my every move because of what I have found they have compromised over 300,000 pics 100s of hours of video. I won't go into detail about what I have found because every time I I tell someone what it is there minds close up and they look away. Some time ago, good mate Neil Arnold asked me if I would write the Foreword for his new book, "SHADOWS IN THE SKY: THE HAUNTED AIRWAYS OF BRITAIN". Well, "of course" I bloody would! So, Neil fired the Word doc over to me, I eagerly devoured it, and duly sent Neil my hastily pounded out words of introduction to his mighty tome.

But, last week, I received in the mail the finished piece of work, which is why I'm bringing it up now. Now I'm not just saying this because we both like the Sex Pistols, Oasis and Motley Crue, but "SHADOWS IN THE SKY" is a book that, if you're a definitive Fortean, and/or are interested in Brit-based things of a paranormal, supernatural, cryptozoological, and/or ufological nature, then this is the book for you.

The production is excellent, as is the layout. But, coupled with the fantastic artwork of yet another good mate, Simon Wyatt, and also Alan Friswell and Adam Smith, "SHADOWS IN THE SKY" is the perfect piece of work for indulging in some late-night reading by the proverbial flickering candle.

One of the reasons I enjoy reading Neil's books is that not only does he have a great knowledge of British forteana, folklore, mythology and mystery, but he has a great passion and enthusiasm for such issues, too.

For Neil, like me, there's still something exciting and mysterious about ancient woodland, ruined castles, old haunted villages, snow-covered hills, late-night tales around the fireplace, and centuries-old legend. And that shines through in Neil's writing, which is informative, intelligent and entertaining.

Why's it called "SHADOWS IN THE SKY"? Because it deals with the mysteries of the skies, of course! And there's plenty of them. But, rather than waffle on and on, instead take a look at my Foreword for Neil's book, which I have copy-pasted below. And when you've read it, go and get a copy of "SHADOWS IN THE SKY"!

When Neil Arnold asked me if I would write the Foreword to this very book - "Shadows in the Sky "- I quickly and enthusiastically said: "Yes!" Not just because Neil is a good mate who shares similar tastes in music and embraces the idea of living life to the full, but also because - as is the case with all of Neil's books - his new one is a damned fine read!

There's often a danger that when compiling and writing a book on countless cases and incidents of a distinctly paranormal nature, the finished product can come across as being overly sterile and encyclopedic. In other words: highly informative, but as downright dull as dishwater.

Thankfully, Neil is the sort of author who astutely realizes that capturing the attention and imagination of the reader is as important as presenting the evidence. And that's what I like about Neil's work: he's a good, solid researcher, but one who also knows how to craft a fine and captivating account that is as factual as it is spellbinding.

And that's precisely what you get with "Shadows in the Sky": a mighty and mysterious tome best devoured by candlelight on a thunderous, chilled night. And if you happen to be in some spooky old house at the time, well, all the better!

So, with that said, what, precisely, is "Shadows in the Sky" all about? Put simply, it's a first-class study of strange, bizarre and, at times, downright terrifying phenomena seen in the skies of the green and pleasant British Isles.

No-one should be surprised to learn that Neil devotes a whole section of his book to the controversy surrounding UFOs - and he does so in a fashion demonstrating that whatever the nature of the phenomenon, it's a very ancient and mysterious one.

But, flying saucers and aliens are not the only things that pop up on Neil's radar. He also provides us with a fascinating body of data on issues that some see as being connected with the modern era of Ufology, including weird and enigmatic ghostly balls of light, and 19th and early 20thCentury sightings of "phantom airships," unidentified balloons and much more. Now that the Ketchum DNA Study has been released what is the future for this crazy arena called "Bigfoot Research"? Last year I and several of my contemporaries shifted our focus from gathering evidence to the study of the Bigfoot. Knowing the results of the DNA study we shifted our focus. It was no longer necessary to maintain trail cameras, hair traps, video surveillance, and the likes. We switched over into the next phase of Bigfoot research. We now are focusing on Bigfoot behavior, culture, and interaction.

The only way to truly study the Bigfoot is in its environment. In order to do this TIME is required. Like Jane Goodall we need passionate and dedicated researchers willing to spend months or even years in the woods with the Bigfoot. Living there 24/7 building trust with a Bigfoot clan. This is the only way I see that we can ethically move forward. This is the logical next step. The problem is we are all amateurs and have no outside financial support for our research. Spending this kind of time will be impossible. This will slow down the research to a painfully slow crawl. Interaction will be built one weekend at a time instead of one day at a time.

I do find it interesting that Jane Goodall took a novel approach in her research. Per a PBS special Goodall admitted that she had no "collegiate training directing her research". She "observed things that strict scientific doctrines may have overlooked". I find this extremely interesting and true of many Bigfoot researchers today. We are not trained in this field of research that is ignored and scoffed at by 99.9% of mainstream science. We do however, like Goodall, bring a common sense approach that is not shackled by "scientific doctrines". When dealing with Bigfoot research you must think out of the box and be willing to be completely unconventional, that is the only way.

This focus on the study of Bigfoot is going to frustrate those still wanting "proof" or close up HD footage of the Bigfoot. The only way I see HD footage of a Bigfoot being taken (without killing one) is through what is commonly called "habitation". The researcher is going to have to select a location that is in the Bigfoot's home range and then spend as much time as possible in this area. The video cameras must be turned off, trail cameras taken down, hair traps removed, and the senseless wood knocking and screaming has to cease.

The "real" work now begins! The day to day field work of going into the home area and making yourself available. We must learn to be unconventional! We are attempting to make contact and have interaction with a race of people whose very survival depends on their ability to avoid us and remain hidden. Trust must be built. We must study what little information we have about them from the Native Americans and those with long term habituation. We must be aware these are people and we are studying another culture not some wild animal. They do and will have customs that we must learn and respect if we are to interact and learn about them. We must realize the truth about them, not all of them are the "benevolent keepers of the forest". Like any culture they have a criminal or rogue element and we must be aware of and prepared for this.

We must find a way to communicate with them. Scott Nelson is doing ground breaking work but we must do more than just transcribe what they uttering and translate it. We need a primmer and we need it fast! We may find that there are dialects and different languages spoken across the geographic regions of the country. I am fortunate that my area of research is near the infamous "Carter Farm". Thanks to Mary Green's work with Janice Carter we have a dictionary via her book "Fifty Years with Bigfoot". The DNA study has vindicated Mary and her work. The dictionary of Bigfoot words and phrases contained in her book will be a valuable tool.

I am already receiving some disgruntled comments from those who think I should cover the exterior of my house with video surveillance gear. First off I tried that, does not work. Second when I was recording constantly I found there is no way to watch that much footage! If I recorded at night that is 12 hours a day! Even on fast speed it takes at least 2 hours per day to watch and to be honest with multiple cameras I just do not have that kind of time! Plus I think this is counterproductive. My goal is no longer to "prove" Bigfoot exist but to study and interact. So if my house is bristling with dozens of electronic recording devices that does not send a friendly "come and visit" message. I hope one day to make contact sitting out back at night. That will not be done with video cameras running.

Those who follow Bigfoot research will need to be patient because the progress will be slow. Advancements will be made in inches not feet. Building a rapport with a local group of Bigfoot will take time, effort, and patience from us all.

The next phase of Bigfoot research is going to be exciting but I see many of the "fair weather" Bigfoot fans and researchers moving on to the next "big thing". That usually happens when the "real work" begins.
