g ABODES -Book alert: Three recent developments have greatly increased interest in the search for life on Mars. The first is new information about the Martian environment including evidence of a watery past and the possibility of atmospheric methane. The second is the possibility of microbial viability on Mars. Finally, the Vision for Space Exploration initiative included an explicit directive to search for the evidence of life on Mars. These scientific and political developments led NASA to request the NRC s assistance in formulating an up-to-date integrated astrobiology strategy for Mars exploration. Among other topics, "An Astrobiology Strategy for the Exploration of Mars" presents a review of current knowledge about possible life on Mars; an astrobiological assessment of current Mars missions; a review of Mars-mission planetary protection; and findings and recommendations. The report notes that the greatest increase in understanding of Mars will come from the collection and return to Earth of a well-chosen suite of Martian surface materials.

"When there are UFOs there is money!" could be the idea.
And it is something that really works for the organizers of annual congresses done not all the time in the same place, although there are places looked as "historical" that call for the repetition of such activities every year.
They are business with the excuse of "UFOs", or more precisely, of the extraterrestrial myth and a rainbow of individuals that makes their living of that.
Those congresses are a pretext to promote tourism to one particular area.
From organized trips to "special places", to the percentage that the organizers will get after an arrangement with a hotel where a congress would be held, everything tends to satisfy clients, entertain public, and at the end...make money out of the UFO subject.
This is the truth behind the vast majority of those meetings.
Exceptionally there could be some of them, which really pursue to deal in depth with the UFO subject, and those kinds of activities are exclusively related to a very selective group of people specially invited.
Those are not public events, they are not open to the public at large, and those who participate are a limited number of scientists and or experts, who will deliberate for some days about the issue and come out with certain recommendations, guides for a future work, and an evaluation of the whole issue if it is possible.
Those are the serious activities that later could be known by the general public through a press conference, and or a book, etc.
An example of that was the First Colloquy of the River Plate, organized by C.I.O.V.I., in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1962.
Another example was the scientific panel convened in Pocantico, New York, in 1998, by Professor Dr. Peter Sturrock.
Outside of that kind of activities, the so-called "UFO congresses" in general, are activities to promote the personal infatuation of some people, and the way many of them are making money exploiting the UFO subject, selling magazines, books, CDs, DVDs, and many objects done by artisans, etc. On the top of all of that, the perpetuation of the extraterrestrial myth is a condition "sine-qua-non".
Science and a serious approach to the subject have nothing to do with all of that.

One recent theory that has been pondered by many scientists is the theory of the beginning of life on Mars. Interestingly after discovering life in bacteria on Mars the possibility that life started there before Earth is becoming more likely. In fact the bacteria, once studied fully could help us know more about ourselves..
MARS ASTEROID THEORY
The theory is that a couple of hundred million years ago an asteroid hit the side of mars possibly even destroying most life there (EXCEPT BACTERIA) and then ricocheted and landed on earth.. The small bacterias it collected while hitting Mars is the theory where life may have started. Maybe it all started on Mars..? Maybe as more studies on Mars the truth may finally be revealed.. These many UFO near our Sun are real unidentified objects. UFOs are of different sizes, different structures, different forms. Many UFOs are around some "energy" field. "UFOs are always near our sun. UFOs flying into the sun, and fly out of the sun. Many unidentified objects, fly up to the sun and to maneuver at high speeds. For all movement UFO can be seen in my previous file perennial surveys UFO near the Sun on this channel. In the early history of research, I was getting good quality images of the objects, but more than a year, NASA provides the public images of very poor quality. People questioned NASA. NASA responded that these UFOs - a speck of dust on the lens, these UFOs - broken pixels on the sensor lens, these UFOs - meteorites, etc. Excuses, NASA was vast. But now, NASA is silent. People should know the truth!

REPORT FROM MUFON:DATE OF EVENT: June 12, 2010LOCATION OF EVENT: New York City, New York"My friends and I were walking on New Dorp Beach, in Staten Island, New York, (one of the five boroughs), and we looked up to stargaze, and instead see strange lights in a clear night sky. The pattern of lights was consistent with a tail light (color purpleish), two wing lights (a strange white color), and a center light (red to green).What was most frightening to us was the sound - or rather lack of any. The bottom was black and sleek, almost as if it were an SR-71 blackbird, although current technology does not allow for flight ascending directly upwards and downwards, and does not allow for sudden, almost sonic speeds. It seemed to slow as it was above us, the lights in the front became three white headlights, and it was followed by an obviously American military jet.This craft has been spotted in many different areas on Staten Island. It's one thing to run a military test run, but it's completely another to see a military jet actually chasing an unknown craft. I haven't the slightest clue whether it was of a terrestrial or extraterrestrial nature, but quite frankly it's been seen quite often. It was both wondrous and frightening, we were all mesmerized.We lost sight of the craft after it sped away in a curious diagonal pattern. I apologize for lack of any photographs, we figured that if it were military, the last thing college students want is to be investigated due to photos of military craft."

Now that Summer is finally here (yeah right!), I have been grabbing what time I can in my own back garden.
Maybe because of this, my thoughts turned to a party my wife and I went to one Summery Saturday afternoon a few years ago - when I would still be slaving away in some Whitehall office or other during the week. It was hosted by a friend and colleague of my wife's who was also reasonably well known to me. As parties go, it was a bit of a lacklustre affair with poor attendance. But the weather was nice and we could languish in our host's hundred foot long garden, the bottom of which was lost in dense trees.
There was the usual party conversation but the real highlight of the event for me however, was when we were introduced to the father of the host's boyfriend. He was a retired former policeman whom I'm guessing was in his seventies at the time we met. He lived in South Africa and was visiting his son for the Summer.
I found out that he had worked on - if I remember correctly - the training manual for SO19 (as he called it - now SCO19), the firearms unit of the Metropolitan Police, which was interesting enough in itself. BUT when the conversation somehow turned to UFOs (probably my fault but only in jest) he quite earnestly said "I saw a UFO once".
Well the other party guests might as well not have been there, as I recall spending the remaining hours of the party talking with this genial, gently spoken and articulate man about his on-duty encounter with something that, to this day, he - and another colleague on patrol with him - cannot explain. We also chewed the fat about various theories concerning UFO phenomena in general. The more we talked, it seemed to me that he was quite well informed on the subject and could relate anecdotes about other colleagues having had similar experiences some of which may very well have ended up on the PRUFOS database.
I wish I could remember more details of the encounter he described (sorry folks) and had had the presence of mind to write some of it down on returning home - but alas I didn't think to do so at the time and didn't think I would be writing about this online some time later either.
I came away hoping I hadn't taken up too much of his time but having genuinely enjoyed our discussion - and feeling quite privileged. I suspect that he'd enjoyed talking about it just as much as I had and was glad to share his experience with (what I hope) is an open-minded cove like myself. Part of me did wonder at first whether this was a gentle wind-up, as coppers generally have a wicked sense of humour but I think this chap was being earnest. My wife thought so too and she's a good judge of character.
I think it's fair to say that meeting and talking to this man - and one or two others - sowed the seeds of my move to start this blog, which has been a long time coming. It made me realise that there are potentially hundreds - if not thousands - of credible witness sightings by professionals not only in the police but also in other emergency services, the armed forces and in aviation. Most of these individuals will have had close encounters which have never been recorded, because of their fear of ridicule by their peers and how this would affect their careers. It's such a shame that many - like this man I met - feel they can only really open up when they have ceased working in those professions.
I wonder sometimes that if the true number of sightings and encounters by such professionals were ever actually known, whether the mainstream scientific community and our Government would treat the subject more seriously (at least openly). But even then I suspect not.
I do think however, that only the inexplicable appearance of something manifestly not faked and 'not-of-this-earth' at a globally broadcast event like the 2012 Olympics for example would be enough...

The object could be one in a series of gas clouds, the second of which may soon become a snack for the black hole.The newly discovered object has been dubbed G1. An object known as G2 has been in the news for more than a year, ever since astronomers at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany hypothesized that it was a gas cloud. If that is true, it should lose some of its material to the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way (known as Sagittarius A* or Sgr A*).
