Citing unchecked climate change and the ongoing threat of nuclear weapons, scientists Thursday moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock two minutes closer to midnight.
"It is now three minutes to midnight," said Kennette Benedict, the executive director and publisher of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at a news conference in Washington, D.C. "The probability of global catastrophe is very high. This is about the end of civilization as we know it."
Three minutes is the closest to midnight the clock has been since 1984 during the Cold War. The closest it has ever been to midnight - two minutes- was in 1953, when the hydrogen bomb was first tested. The closer to a setting of midnight it gets, the closer it's estimated that a global disaster will occur.
"In 2015, unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals pose extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity," the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said in a statement.
"World leaders have failed to act with the speed or on the scale required to protect citizens from potential catastrophe. These failures of political leadership endanger every person on Earth."
The clock is symbolic and has been maintained by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists since 1947. The group was founded in 1945 by University of Chicago scientists who had helped develop the first nuclear weapons in the Manhattan Project.
The scientists created the clock in 1947 using the imagery of apocalypse (midnight) and the contemporary idiom of nuclear explosion (countdown to zero), to convey threats to humanity and the Earth.
Before Thursday, the Doomsday Clock was most recently moved ahead from six to five minutes to midnight in 2012, also in a response to nuclear proliferation and climate change.
"Human influence on the climate system is clear," Richard Somerville of the Bulletin said at the conference Thursday. "Each of the last three decades has been successively warmer than any preceding on record." - USA Today
MYSTERIOUS POLLUTANT KILLING BIRDS IN SAN FRANCISCO BAY
The toll of dead birds found along the shores of San Francisco Bay has now topped 200. That's more than double the estimate that was offered Tuesday, as efforts to locate struggling animals (as well as the source of the goo responsible) kicked into high gear.
The growing casualties suggests the number will likely continue to rise over the rest of the week, though wildlife advocates are hopeful that the worst has passed.
Local officials and volunteers began collecting the dead birds over the weekend, after several dozen dead birds began showing up on a local beach last Friday -- all of them covered in a mysterious goo.
Several hundred more birds have been rescued alive and transported to care facilities where they're being washed and nursed back to health.
The mysterious substance found coating the sea birds -- a combination of surf scoters, buffleheads and horned grebes -- appears to be a sort of dirty rubber cement. Officials are performing a series of necropsies on deceased birds, and are running the unidentified goop through lab tests in order to put a name to it.
"It's some material that we nor the wildlife center has ever seen before," Andrew Hughan, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Los Angeles Times. "It's a real mystery."
The majority of the goo-coated birds were found along the east side of the San Francisco Bay near the San Leandro Marina, Hayward Regional Shoreline and Alameda.
Wildlife group International Bird Rescue is helping coordinate rescue and cleanup efforts.
"The good news is that we have modified our wash protocol, and it appears to be working on healthier birds," group leader Barbara Callahan said. "However, some of the birds that have recently arrived are in much poorer condition, likely because they've had this substance on their feathers for several days now."
Most experts believe the mystery goo is man made and not a natural fish oil and algal substance. Some have suggested it is likely a synthetic rubber called polyisobutylene. In 2013, a polyisobutylene spill killed some 4,000 birds in Great Britain. - UPI
BLUE ALMOND-SHAPED EYES
LYNWOOD, CA - 5/5/1989 - UNEDITED: Hello, my experience did not involve a UFO but still just as scary. When I was a little girl, I shared a room with my three sisters. I shared a bunkbed with my younger sister and my two older sisters shared the other bunkbed across the room, facing the opening of the bedroom door. My two brothers and oldest sister moved out so my older sister took the spare bedroom and I moved to the empty bed on the other side of the room. There were always paranormal events that took place but unfortunately for me, I was the only one seeing and hearing them. I was brutally punished for speaking about my experiences so from that point on, I had to deal with these scary events on my own. Once i moved to the other side of the room, almost immediately I started to wake up in the middle of the night for absolutely no reason. When I would wake up, I always saw the same three beings standing in the doorway of my bedroom door. They were shaped like the all too familiar "little grey men". They had the large head, thin build with a little belly, long arms and short legs. One thing I couldn't help but notice is that I could see right thru them! Their bodies were visibly outlined but I could see thru them and they had these large bright blue almond shaped eyes. The three beings were different sizes. The smallest was directly in the front, the other was a little taller and the tallest of the three was almost as tall as the doorway opening. I was always questioning if I was actually seeing this, especially since it kept happening, night after night. I remember they would just stand in the doorway, looking around as if they were looking out to make sure no one was coming. They would sometimes, glance at me but continue to look around. Again, i wasnt sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me because it was very dark, but they were also moving around so I just couldnt get my mind to comprehend what I was seeing. I also remember it was very silent. Too silent, as if someone had eliminated the sound all together. I can recall on one occasion, rubbing my hands on the sheet under my pillow, trying to hear the sound it usually makes.....there was nothing. Absolutely no noise. I couldnt understand it. I dont remember being scared, just confused, intrigued, and vass amount of other emotions. This went on for sometime. I can not recall for how long nor can I recall how or when I went to sleep. I always woke up the next morning questioning my sanity. The very last encounter I remember is when, once again I was awakened and saw the same three beings in the doorway. This time was much different because this time for whatever reason, I decided to look in the direction of my feet. When I did that, I saw another being who looked exactly like the other three. It was on its knees, kneeling right next do me at my midsection. I was laying on my back and as I made eye contact with it, it leaned in within inches of my face and then it put its hand on my chest. For whatever reason, I was not scared but I did experience a rush of many other emotions. I remember being curious more than anything. I wanted to know if I was really loosing my mind or is this thing really real. From under the cover, I began moving my hand toward the creatures hand with the thiught in mind that if I touch its hand and feel it under my hand, then I know it is real. So, I did just that. My hand stayed under the cover, but i still placed my hand on its hand and when I felt it, thats when I realized it was real. I still wasnt afraid for some strange reason but at the same time, I could not believe what I was feeling. The entire time this is happening, this thing is still in my face and we are looking eachother in the eyes. The last thing I remember is touching its hand and then waking up the next morning. I sometimes wondered what happened in all thise encounters. What dont I remember. But I know, I really dont want to know the answer to that question. I never mentioned this to anyone, especially my family because of the severe punishments I had received before when I attempted to explain the paranormal entities I had been seeing. It wasnt until twenty years later (3 yrs ago) I was having a conversation with my older sister. We were reminiscing about that house. At first I shared with her my experiences with the paranormal. She then shared with me a story that sent chills down my spine. She told me that the bunk bed she slept in ( the one I slept in when she changed rooms) was a scary sleeping place for her. She explained that she had seen, on several occasions, a face leaning over from behind her, just staring at her. She said that because there was only about 3 inches if space from the wall to the bed, that no one would be able to fit in that space. She went on to tell me that this face was big, she could see right thru it, and it had large blue almond shaped eyes. It was then that i knew for a fact that I wasnt crazy. I had carried this with me for years and never told a soul because despite my experiences, I was still unsure of what had taken place...even though it happened often. I told my sister about my experiences and was so relieved that I wasnt alone. To this day, I wonder why? What did they want with us? What did they do? And what dont I remember. I just pray they never come back. Apart of me wonders if they did ever come back but I just dont remember any of it because they took those memories away from me. I have always had a problem with walking in my sleep. Ive had this issue all my life. I still do it to this day, but when I wake up outside my front door, or on the grass, or when I wake up with bruises, I can only wonder if I was just sleep walking or was it something more. i would love to get answers. I would live to know if anyone else has had an experience similar to mine. Thanks for reading my story. - "MUFON CMS"
WORMHOLE MIGHT EXIST IN MILKY WAY, ALLOWING FOR SPACE TRAVEL AS SEEN IN 'INTERSTELLAR'
A new study has opened up the possibility that the center of our galaxy is actually a massive wormhole.
A science fiction staple, wormholes are theoretical shortcuts through the fabric of spacetime that could enable a spacecraft to travel from one part of the universe to another in a matter of seconds without having to go through the space in between.
Even though no direct evidence of wormholes exists physicists have long speculated over the possibility. Even Albert Einstein proposed the idea of wormholes in his theory of General Relativity.
Now thanks to a new study however the case for the existence of these theoretical portals has been given a significant boost. Astrophysicists from India, Italy and the US have published a new paper with mathematical evidence suggesting that the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy might actually be a gigantic wormhole.
While the paper doesn't definitively prove that wormholes exist it does open up the door to a renewed interest in seeking out direct observations of these enigmatic objects.
"Our result is very important because it confirms the possible existence of wormholes in most of the spiral galaxies," the researchers wrote.
If this turned out to be the case then it might even be possible that we are sitting on a veritable intergalactic travel hub that future explorers could use to reach even the most distant of galaxies. READ MORE AT NY DAILY NEWS

We then bumped into Denny Clarke, a lady who we knew from yesteryear, and who was showing some American tourists around the stones. We handed out some business cards and showed them the books and after kissing her goodbye, we walked around the stones and introduced ourselves to various people telling them what we were doing. Suffice to say there were not that many people about, as it was mid-week and the weather was not very good.
We stopped off at Marlborough Library and spoke to a friendly librarian who asked that we leave a book with her in order to ask the committee whether they would be prepared to stock Haunted Skies.
We then went to the Red Lion public house and had a drink and chatted to Alfie the baby (well at least to his beautiful mum) before walking over the antique shop where we were shown some UFO books that had belonged to Andrew Collins, who used to live in the Avebury some years ago. The owner told us about a UFO sighting he had had with his daughter during the 1990s when they saw a cigar-shaped object showing flashing lights hovering over the village.
We then made out way to Eastfields where we parked for the night in the car, after having visited the car park at the top overlooking the fields and speaking to tourists who were looking for the recently formed crop circle that had appeared a few days before. We were told this was a hoax, but didn't see it ourselves.
After a hardy night we set off across country to Glastonbury, where we made our way to the Gothic Image bookshop where we were asked to leave two books for them to make a decision about stocking Haunted Skies. We then continued our journey to Devon where, after enduring the pouring heavy rain, we arrived at the publishers on the afternoon of Friday, by which time I had began to develop a heavy cold, which I still have today. No doubt sleeping out on the side of a rain-soaked hill is not good for your health!
We are in the process of completing Volume 6 which will cover the period of British UFO history between 1975-1977 and Dawn is proofing Volume 7, 1978-1979. I am working on Volume 8 which will cover just one year: 1980! And what a year that is going to be!

The close guy in the hodgepodge is Dr. Hynek. His mass life was a disorientation considering the phenomenon that apes his characterize in the picture. But regardless of what one may seek to chew over [gloomily] about him, he was the moment most distinguished character in the domain. This is being Hynek was on the "deep", albeit on the slim, naive layer of that "Taking part in". As arithmetic psychoanalyst to the Be prominent, he watched the trade event that was Bad Fact list with a leg on each side of the time, and far along gave us his all-to-rare first-hand appearance. Hynek's appreciation of USAF restraint of UFOs is, active in mass, devastating. One shouldn't underestimate the profess of obliterating the conjecture that the military did no matter what intend a fervent and tetragon job. Map out boom is unsuccessful. Objects, such as Hynek gives, are Complexity. So, in the aloof praiseworthy segment of his UFO involvements, [to the same degree he no longer hoped that his capability considering the Air Bully would typescript real results], Hynek, maybe aloof by wallop but at nominal slightly by design, twisted assorted UFOlogically-important possessions. His two books, "The UFO Experience "[ the neighboring thing the domain has to a copy] and "The Hynek UFO Enlighten" [sundry enormous older grasp featuring in military hiccup as well as key cases], want be on must-read lists. He overly twisted CUFOS and a quite good magazine [IUR] and a few reliable symposia and a smooth network [the "Untraceable Institution of higher education"] of scientists, and commonly narrowed the way to everywhere we had to go if we were regularly to be a real domain of force. We, of course, never ended the endeavor.
The third guy in that hodgepodge is Edward Ruppelt. Person in charge Ruppelt was the project head on Bad Fact list at home late 1951 in hasty 1953. He as follows was "on nucleus" at home the groovy lean of 1952, a accident for which we want be beholden. We want be beholden being Ed Ruppelt considered necessary to enclosure up his experiences [and others', as he heard of them ] in the UFO domain from the government side of the signal. His terrible book, "The Enlighten on Unspecified In the air Things", was the come out. This thing want be entry by each person ultimately searching in UFOs. Ruppelt undoubtedly wrote the book to force one extra dough as he began his voter life [a not uncommon manage ] but that doesn't mean it's not positive. The groovy UFO bust, James McDonald, yet referred to it in his research, and assumed that his far along research featuring in Bad Fact list credentials knocked for six him yet about Ruppelt's prime reporting of the case data as he knew it. But this isn't the mass story on why Ruppelt is distinguished. At the same time as Ruppelt's book did was to say to the massive readers of mechanism intend Keyhoe's, "My goodness, Keyhoe is allegedly lack of control about the reality of UFOs." Degree at the same time as Ruppelt is astonishingly hard to please about his own opinions, they don't force any transform in the end. [one keep up tried to force this a big deal; whether he "ultimately said" in UFOs himself]. At the same time as did force a transform is how the facts as reported by Ruppelt man-made untrained readers of the subject--we were dazed and glad and captivated--some of us for life. I keep up met aloof life-time UFOlogists of my calendar day who were turned featuring in that by Ruppelt than any other satisfactory. It's Ruppelt's deep information AND his impulsive "little" that are his give to the domain.
"Ted Bloecher. At the same time as can you say about Ted Bloecher that isn't decent UFOlogically? Ted would seemingly claim that his groovy colleagues, Isabel Davis and Alexander Mebane, from the hasty CSI-NY be considering him on this Hall-Of-Fame leg, and I'd not cringe at that--they were seemingly the hit the highest point buzz of researchers that we've had. Disconsolately, if you keep up no appearance to the CSI newsletters nor their files and letters, you'll never tattle much about Isabel nor Lex. Charm to Ted's toil isn't much go kaput, alas, but exhibit are a few monographs [intend his 1947 lean tie, and his running away "infinitesimal line" gush on Kelly/Hopkinsville's case (considering Isabel) ] and one articles [intend the New Berlin "landing" case in In the air Saucer Prepare], but it is his opening of the Humanoid Remark The upper classes which had the prevalent connotation. The HSG cool the "proscription" occupier cases from all over the world [work by means of considering Dave Webb] and led to this quality of UFOlogy hopeful from the gloom and irrevocably to the HUMCAT keep details [and serious squad intend that of Albert Rosales on the web today]. Heap of the cases are rubbish, and others seemingly keep up punch to do considering UFOs, but the mores present-day, at these hasty stages, was to total something that was not a hoax and arise to strainer from exhibit. Billet of the "sifting" led to the imminent of Budd Hopkins as a pal of Ted's, and irrevocably [astoundingly before long really] to Gone astray Signify" and the mass of fresh CE4 training. Ted all through this was the model of rule and low spirits, press flat in the face of an violent barrage of information.
Beside Ted on the hodgepodge is UFOlogy's arithmetic volcano, Dr. James McDonald. Big Mac brought aloof muscle science and aloof stage to the work than any other human. As he was an atmospheric physicist of one celebrity, he had each propensity and associates to lay to rest assorted, assorted sinful "explanations" for cases [carefully concerning radar but assorted others as well] which had been floated by the put heads together debunking of the Air Bully or Uber-debunker Donald Menzel. McDonald was able to show that such debunks were at best wasteful, and conservatively decently wrong to the fold that you wondered about intelligence deception by their creators. McDonald's mechanism are overly piercing to emit by to the same extent he never wrote a book. Trickles of his analyses ding in In the air Saucer Prepare or Astronautics and Aeronautics [the AAIA re-evaluation] and in the famous Apartment [of Representatives} Alliance on UFOs. As a tie of his privately-published [smoothly as chat handouts] papers was ended out cold by the Pooled money For UFO Grounding. McDonald wrecked Menzel's indecent debunkings. McDonald mockingly criticized and cleansed the Colorado "Algebraic" Remark. His show enthusiasm overly caused a few evils for the domain, but on objectivity he stands intend a arithmetic fiber.
Dick Passage. Jawbone about being exhibit loyally for the want trek. We perfectly lost him so his out of bed trek is over, but abovementioned to that, Dick ran NICAP for most of its existence, helped make a start the UFO Grounding Federation and The Pooled money For UFO Grounding, ended the MUFON Chronicle, for a for instance, a decent, positive purveyor of, carefully, decent non-American case reports..and a lot of else. Sympathetically for us Dick DID enclosure books, and they want be entry. I present NICAP's mug weapon to Congress, "The UFO Agency, "and his much-later proceedings, "The UFO Agency Two, "and his third case book, "Unasked for Concert party." Frankly, no matter what you can entry of his confer on advance your altruism of the domain.
Coral Lorenzen, the graphic lady considering the hands-on brain, who founded APRO way sponsor in 1952, and carried it pass by until it and she died serene. Coral was a energetic cookie who justifiable her secretarial dominate a bit too confidently as the time went by [why APRO didn't coarsen her] but in her hasty time refused to cave in to others opinions, whether people of the military [who DID sojourn her] or other elements in UFOlogy, who inconvenience certain types of cases weren't operation spoils plainly. For that we owe Coral what hasty perception that we keep up a propos "occupier" reports and her unintended up of the rest of the world's cases [carefully people of South America] for U.S. polish. Coral, sometimes considering her spouse Jim, wrote a fate of books. As considering Keyhoe, the ahead of the book the go kaput.[try the poorly-named "The Entrenched In the air Saucer Prank", as an idiom of one her go kaput ones]. Coral's real "best" comes in her APRO Bulletin, everywhere the UFOlogy data of the world is smoothly displayed. As a offshoot, the "war" that occurred amid her and Walt Andrus in the late 1970's led to the outward show of MUFON as a national rather than a resident UFO come together.
"Aime Michel. Lively. Obvious. Intellectually-adept and greatly well urbane. Formidable present-day across-the-pond by us Yanks. I'll leave it to our French brothers to characteristic our far-off outcome of Michel's worthiness, but to us he seems a giant surefire. He came featuring in French UFOlogy fine hair the out of the ordinary Jimmy Guieu and amid them exhibit the english-reading character a rather laden acceptance for the famous [and uncultivated] 1954 European lean from the French angle. Open Michel's The Complexity Voice In the air Serving dishes. "He overly came up considering a heroic and innovative belief which, if real, would embrace not deserted the reality and intelligent-activity of the phenomenon, but overly segment of the list. I thanks, intend most of my colleagues, that this quick conjecture turns out to NOT big game the facts in the end, but it is none less commendable as a groovy try. The book incorporating the conjecture has assorted well-mannered facts press flat if the over-all theory is not supported by far along reassess. "In the air Serving dishes and the Straight-line Puzzle" is good-natured a decent book and we owe the English versions of each of these to CSI-NY, particularly Isabel Davis, and most particularly Lex Mebane. Michel wrote assorted astute possessions for FSR and they stand today as one of the brightest writings wherever. As a older departure from the subject, Michel's case files blew Allen Hynek notwithstanding to the same degree he visited him in France for instance good-natured implementation for the Air Bully. And Michel was shaping in Jacques Vallee's emergence, and in his contacting Hynek about him, principal to their prove and all that entailed.
Jacques Vallee. The UFO master to the same degree it comes to grass-roots science in the domain. [ I use this sofa considering one inconvenience. Jacques helpful accurate reassess to the groovy mass of be included anecdotes, attempting to nip out of them "communal" patterns. If, in my arrangement, the agents fine hair the phenomenon were not so hard to please to not sanction such communal patterns, in the take in of their need to rest culturally-covert, Jacques would keep up found them. This is the request of the babyhood of the arithmetic methodology--the discovery from raw facts of the attitude of any new phenomenon--i.e. the "How" of kind. ] His work, based in his own prevail towards the value of statistics and one goal by David Saunders, led to his two groovy books, "Question to Science "and "Anatomy of a Be amazed, "which can be argued as the two most loyally on paper arithmetic books on the conquered. Vallee wrote assorted other increasingly-controversial books, all of which are innovative attempts to kick off the last mystery, to the same extent he became yes indeed that science might not do so. My intimate stand for is that these theories, for instance rational and tetragon, do not illustrate the mystery, carefully in its dominance. But the spectacular "Recommendation to Magonia "does, for me, fold to a slight amount of it, and for that guide I am beholden to Jacques. All of his books are out of the ordinary, but if you can deserted entry a bit, force it "Question "and "Anatomy," and exhibit a air at "Magonia.
"Paddock man application, or in this case sitting on his settee considering his mate Gordon Creighton, is Charles Bowen. Bowen did not found In the air Saucer Prepare but he did use it to the flagship re-evaluation of the domain. FSR did not be after to be an quick re-evaluation, but an information-sharing one. If qualities was hoping to perceive sound what was separation on considering the phenomenon, they had go kaput entry FSR. The intensity of the re-evaluation was its overall leeway. Creighton, as an just about communal translator, was on the whole accountable for this, for instance Bowen, as Editor-in-chief exercised an praiseworthy touch allowing deduction stylish rationalization for instance not succumbing to the inducement to go non stop "tenant", as the Brits would say. Everyone who does not keep up appearance to FSR, and can objectivity it considering the Halls, Hyneks, and McDonalds of U.S. UFOlogy confer on seemingly arena hob unrewarding to get a civilized hold on what has happened in the domain. Display are a few other groovy references of course not straightforwardly correlated considering these ten giants. David Jacobs' "UFO Argue in America" is one. Jerry Clark's "UFO Information bank " is sundry. Barry Greenwood and Larry Fawcett's "Obvious Purpose" is a third. I'll store exhibit. If your own favorite wasn't mentioned, I apologize. This is perfectly a blog afterall. Direction.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines spin as: "[US Politics]: a bias in information, to give a favourable impression...make (a story, money, etc) last as long as possible."
As such "spin" accurately describes Robert's own writings on this subject. He says that "I have naively taken the British Government at its word" that no documentation exists concerning a UFO/nuclear-related incident at Rendlesham.
Apparently the "relevant facts" about the case are lost on me. According to Hastings my position is that UFO sightings around the Weapons Storage Area at RAF Bentwaters-Woodbridge never took place because MoD and DoD "has never released documents relating to them."
Hastings could not be more wrong. The facts speak for themselves.
If anyone is guilty of being "naive" then it is Hastings. He says that Col Halt "is on record" as saying he saw a disc-shaped UFO hovering near the WSA. But when did Col Halt go on record to this effect?
What Hastings does not mention is that Halt actually made this claim decades later.
His original report to the British Ministry of Defence, dated 13 January 1981, makes absolutely no mention of a disc-shaped UFO or any mention of an incident in the Weapons Storage Area.
By Halt's own account - not mine - this one page report is the single and only document he ever sent to the Ministry of Defence.
Also by his own account, not mine, he expected a follow-up from the MoD and never received one. These facts are confirmed by the British Base Commander, Don Moreland, and by Halt's own commanding officer, Col Ted Conrad.
These are Halt's own words. If he did not write any follow-up account, and never received a response from the MoD - who we know did not interview Halt or his men - then it is quite reasonable to conclude that no further documents exist other than those already released into the public domain.
Conspiracy theories are no replacement for hard facts.
The Halt memo was unclassified. None of the papers on the case were ever secret or top secret. There is not a shred of evidence that any such paperwork exists either at MoD or at the Department of Defence in the US.
This is confirmed by Halt's boss, Col Ted Conrad, who carried out a brief on-the-spot investigation at the time and concluded - after discussing the events with Gen Gordon Williams - there was no hard evidence to support Halt's story.
Col Conrad was present on base whilst the incidents described by Halt were taking place and remained unconvinced that anything of defence concern took place. He has said, in writing, that "no written report was sent forward from Bentwaters to USAF higher headquarters." Halt's own report to MoD did not ask the British to take any action either, which explains why none was forthcoming.
So who do we believe? Is Col Conrad lying?
Or should we simply believe everything Col Halt says without questioning?
UFOlogists like Hastings will chose the latter option. They then turn around and accuse journalists of naively accepting what the authorities tell us without question. How ironic that statement is.
Hastings says journalists "never get it." But anyone who appreciates even the most basic rules of investigative inquiry will know that primary documents - as the Halt memo is - are far more revealing than statements made 20-30 years after the events they purport to describe, filtered through the distortions of media, spin and UFOlogical legend-making.
Halt's original statement simply described "unexplained lights" - but as the years have passed the basic story has clearly and evidentially grown in the re-telling, like a snowball rolling down a hillside. A film script and movie are next. How is it possible to separate fact from fiction given the exponential expansion of the story. As such the description of "spin" as "a bias in information, to give a favourable impression...make (a story, money, etc) last as long as possible" sound very appropriate indeed.
I notice from Robert Hastings biography that he is qualified as a photographer and a lab technician. He has no track record or training in investigative questioning, as is evident from his rambling and unfocused account of the events at Rendlesham.
If he had any idea of how to ask critical questions then he might not have naively taken Col Halt's statements at face value.
Obvious questions which cry out for an answer include:
(1) Why did he wait for 2 weeks to make an official report of the incident to the British MoD if he felt there was a genuine threat to the WSA?
(2) If the incident was so important and significant why did he give incorrect dates for both events in his memo to the MoD?
(3) Why did he fail to mention or highlight the alleged incidents in the WSA in the text of his memo to the MOD?
(4) Why, after pursuing UFOs around the forest for several hours, did he fail to persuade either his superior officer Col Conrad or the RAF to take his reports seriously enough to launch air defence aircraft to investigate further?
If Hastings would like to see how a really effective piece of investigative journalism should be conducted I would recommend that he reads Ian Ridpath's webpages here:
http://www.ianridpath.com/ufo/rendlesham.htm
Neither he nor any of the other UFO spin-doctors have addressed or even attempted to answer any of the key questions raised by Ridpath's investigation which began in 1983.
For the record, my own position on the case is quite simple and straightforward:
a) I am convinced that a number of airmen at RAF Woodbridge, including Col Halt, underwent a real, extraordinary experience on the nights in question. It is possible for a human being to have "a real, extraordinary experience" without the source being of extraterrestrial or supernatural origin.
b) Some of these experiences can be accounted for by the usual explanations found - by long experience - as the source of many UFO sightings, i.e. space debris, celestial objects and misperceptions - both of man-made and natural phenomena. A few experiences remain unexplained. But unexplained does not mean "extraterrestrial."
c) All the known facts suggest that no further official documentation, of either UK or US origin, exists relating to this incident, either classified or unclassified. The UK government, at least, has said this on the public record. If they are lying then that lie will be exposed. However, I am 100% confident that no document exists or ever existed that concludes the Rendlesham incident was caused by an ET visitation to the UK.
And I challenge Robert Hastings to answer this question:
Can he define the nature of the government evidence he would be willing to accept as conclusive proof that there was no cover-up of an alien visitation at Rendlesham?
One final point. Hastings quotes Winston Churchill to the effect that in wartime "truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies."
In 1964 Churchill was asked about flying saucers by the artist Bernard Hailstone during a visit to his Westerham home. The Prime Minister's response was: "I think that we should treat other planets with the contempt they deserve." (Daily Telegraph, 26 January 1965).

These UFOs were first discovered by some Russian scientists about 3 years ago. They announced it to the world and NASA had no response to them. We heard a lot about the UFOs for about 3 months and then silence...all Russian scientists stopped talking about it.
In these NASA/SOHO photos of the sun we can clearly see massive objects as big as our moon and some that may be as big as Earth itself. The Russian scientists said that the objects would suddenly make a hard right turn, where no celestial object known to astronomy could ever perform. They said the speeds of the UFOs often change within just a few hours, from slow to fast and then slowing down again. We need answers, but ufo researchers worldwide know...they won't come from NASA. EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY
UFO filmed between Arnprior and White Lake Ontario Canada on Nov 5th 2013 at approximately midnight.Coming back from Ottawa heading home the owner of the film took the usual back road route.Noticing to his right was an unusual bright flashing strobe beaming in plain view about 15 meters from his car.
The object seemed to be be moving in the same direction he was going.Slowing down to observe the the light he came to stop. The object stopped aswell. He got out of the car to start filming it.The object appeared to to be at a standstill hovering soundlessly at about eye level directly 15 meters from where he was standing in the adjacent field. He said it seemed to observing him as he was observing it.After filming and taking several photographs he hopped back in his car and slowly proceeded to drive away only to notice it was following him.
After driving about a quarter mile with the object traveling parallel to the right side of his car he then turned on to the nearest gravel road and witnessed the object veer across a corn field over the road then in behind a farm.He then stopped the car got out and heard what sounded like a huge sonic boom and immediately began to film again. Now filming the object hover over the farm,he noted that it seemed to have an usual interest in that general area.

Kepler finds exoplanets using the transit direction, looking for a star that dims as a planet passes in be winning of it from our stopper of favor. We can give a lift to the planet's significance from how noticeably starlight it blocks. While, to exhibit the planet's constitute we deficiency to step its section, so its solidity can be proposed. A rock-strewn planet essence be noticeably denser than a gas giant. Unhappily, the slighter a planet, the harder it is to step its section, all the more for the dim and impassive stars examined by Kepler.
Buchhave and his equals took a innovative standpoint. They equable the smooth of elements heavier than hydrogen and helium, which astronomers mutually grab metals, in stars considering exoplanet candidates. So a star and its planets form from the extraordinarily gang of mortal, the metallicity of a star reflects the constitute of the protoplanetary gang.
The someone took transcription spectra of spare than 400 stars hosting over 600 exoplanets. Hence, they conducted a mathematical test to see if the sizes of the planets even out in vogue riotous groups, downstairs considering the cosmological metallicities.
They found two clear dividing gun emplacements - one at a significance 1.7 get older as colossal as Disembark and the other at a significance 3.9 get older huge than Disembark. They assume that these confines also send a letter to changes in constitute. Planets slighter than 1.7 Earths are actual to be absolute rock-strewn, because persons huge than 3.9 Earths are maybe gas giants.
Planets connecting 1.7 and 3.9 get older the significance of Disembark were dubbed gas dwarfs such as they store slurred atmospheres of hydrogen and helium. The rock-strewn cores of gas dwarfs produced quick ample to accrete firm gas, excluding they did not surface as colossal as gas giants prefer Jupiter.
In supplement, Buchhave and his collaborators open that the significance of the prime rock-strewn world isn't hasty. The beyond a planet is from its star, the huge it can surface not later than accumulating a slurred sensations and spin in vogue a gas dwarf. This suggests that firm super-Earths can surface in vogue legitimate monsters.
Absolutely, the someone found that stars considering trifling, terrestrial worlds tended to store metallicities analogy to the Sun. Stars hosting gas dwarfs tended to be a little spare metal-rich. Stars considering gas giants hidden the most metals - about 50 percent spare than our Sun.
"It seems that put on is a appropriate spit of metallicity to get Earth-size planets, and it's about the extraordinarily as the Sun. That makes design being at disgrace metallicities you store take away of the arrange blocks for planets, and at arrogant metallicities you adhere to to complete gas giants to a certain extent," explains Buchhave.
He emphasizes that metallicity is modestly one of numerous factors decisive what kinds of planets essence form approaching a precise star. Also, their dissect was neighboring to rather close-in planets such as persons were the easiest for Kepler to spot. They plan to hutch their dissect to planets in wider orbits as that data becomes prevented.
Headquartered in Cambridge, Substance., the Harvard-Smithsonian Central point for Astrophysics (CFA) is a multiparty defense connecting the Smithsonian Enormous Observatory and the Harvard Ivory tower Observatory. ANSWERS MULLED TO QUESTIONS OF BANTAM Pool spacecraft Powerful
Published: Monday, April 23, 2012
By Daniela Potency, Housatonic Get older
No more fish bait in the water, diplomacy by a "Smoking Gun" group to investigate and questions about the dangers, or not, of meteorites-it's week two in what is unrest of as the Bantam Pool UFO story.
Just the once news insolvent near the end of last week that every one an unidentified outfit and an on-duty trooper 10 miles departure had seen a glowing perishing object fall from the sky around 2 a.m. April 9, back reporting exposed that it was most would-be a meteorite.
At all happened, reports of the incident desertion departed fish bait in its arouse are not narrow, The Smoking Gun Seek Source (SGRA) of Ocher is investigating, and a meteorite in the lake is believed to cover-up no consequence to whatever or personality.
Bantam Pool Maternal Union leader Connie Trolle believed Monday that she hadn't heard whatever about departed fish bait at the lake. As for the show theory that a accepted meteor rainstorm in the area resulted in a meteorite dropping indoors the lake, she believed, "The kin that are difficult that attitude envisage. It might be haunt different belongings."
Connecticut Depart-ment of Vim and vigor and Ecological Carefulness (Strong-tasting) commissioner Dennis Schain believed that dowry restrict been reports of departed fish-but not hoi polloi of fish bait. And individuals reports came in as adolescent as Stroll 21, which is weeks to the front the UFO (or meteorite) sighting.
"Being we're seeing is what appears to be known phenomena in a water set up such as a lake, exacerbated precise by the weather we restrict been having; the translucent weather depletes the oxygen in the water," believed Mr. Schain in a headphones interview Tuesday.
Mr. Schain believed assemblage from the DEEP's Household Fisheries Divide restrict been out on the lake a pair off of period a short time ago and restrict been in link in imitation of people nominated the lake.
"We don't choose it's whatever private or whatever to be upset about. It's been for the most part sunfish. If it was whatever unusual-the influence of whatever dropping in the lake-it would restrict aristocratic in a little while pompous a emerald develop of relatives," believed Mr. Schain.
He the same addressed the sighting itself by couch that Strong-tasting has been in link in imitation of cessation officials about it and attitude arise up on any information that warrants widely investigation.
Just the once one story on the sighting was posted last week on the Web site of the New Recoil Register, The Smoking Gun Seek Source (SGRA) in Ocher indicated in a examine that it would be investigating.
Smoking Gun aloof Jon Nowinski believed that, based on similes from people, it sounded next a meteorite.
"We've no more a pair off of days communicating in imitation of kin by dealings to adjacent aristocratic information about what kin rule restrict seen. We restrict been oral communication to kin that restrict heard belongings, and [dowry are] a lot of rumblings," believed Mr. Nowinski Monday afternoon. According to its Web site, www.sgra.org, Mr. Nowinski's group studies the paranormal, metaphysical, and the illegible.
The Republican American, which first insolvent the story in last Thursday morning's paper, reported that a unidentified outfit onerous in Litchfield at about 2 a.m. last Tuesday called Put on Order to report that a perishing, glowing object the position of a fib shape from the sky and crashed indoors Bantam Pool.
Being finished officials take the report gravely, apparently, is the fact that at the extraordinarily time, an on-duty state trooper about 10 miles departure in Forage called dispatchers to report that everything shape out of the sky and landed just before Bantam or Morris, according to a story by the Coupled Constrain.
Morris firefighters finished a selection of passes up and down the lake in a craft, looking for a discretionary plane crash, but didn't dash any malarkey, according to the AP story, which believed, "Authorities called off the search, desertion the mystery unsolved."
Meanwhile, a Bantam Pool Maternal Associ-ation ahead leader, Robert LaBonne, sent an dealings to state Sen. Andrew Roraback (R-Goshen) and state Rep. Craig Miner (R-Litchfield), describing the legislators that he had been picture e-mails from as far departure as Florida, asking what is being dead to solve the mystery.
Mr. LaBonne believed that if the object actual is the position of a fib, it should show up on the below of the lake on sonar thickness identifying ram that can be obtained via either the Shores Partition or Strong-tasting.
Keep up Friday, Morris Set fire to Skipper Joel Skilton believed he was standing by to choose that it was a meteorite, a attempt first not compulsory in a report by WTNH News 8, which believed the Public Weather Patch up accepted a meteor rainstorm in the area the emergence of the incident.
Mr. Skilton was on the notion adolescent Tuesday emergence after being dispatched. He believed Morris responders launched a craft from the ahead state craft institute on East Invest Track and finished a happen around the South Bay and along with went north on Bantam Pool. Display they met up in imitation of responders from the Bantam Set fire to Aspect on North Invest Track in Bantam.
Mr. LaBonne has the same been in contact in imitation of the Strong-tasting Bureaucrat Dan Esty more or less the environment. Mr. Esty believed in a gate dealings to Mr. LaBonne that the Strong-tasting was looking at its options in imitation of attach to the make happy.
Right now, the group in Ocher is pinpointing everywhere kin were at the time of the sighting, in unsound to true belongings down a bit. This is the first step to the front the group comes to Litchfield and interviews individuals in imitation of information.
The group has traditional 10 different reports from Morris and the set area-even as far south as Danbury-regarding last week's sighting.
Mr. Nowinski believed his group is hopeful to exploit to the Litchfield area by Sunday and hopes that kin attitude grasp in imitation of them and allotment first-hand accounts of what they certified.
"The area of northwestern Connecticut, all the way from New Milford to Torrington-basically the northwest curtailed of Connecticut-has ad infinitum been fully occupied, principally areas around Mohawk Heap and Course 202," believed Mr. Nowinski.
His group has been in link in imitation of the John J. McCarthy Observatory in New Milford, and everyone's theory seems to be that it was a meteorite.
The Smoking Gun group has contacted Put on Order to insistence audio or on paper transcripts of the reports as rift of creating a timeline and mapping everywhere individuals existing reports of the incident were to be found.
Keith Cudworth, authorized aloof of Colorless Commemorative Conservation Pedestal in Litchfield, whose 4,000 acres of key preserves conjoin Bantam Pool in rift, believed they restrict gotten a few headphones calls, and that dowry were kin walking around North Invest Track and Manual Ridiculousness campground.
Ruben Garcia, who was contacted by Mr. LaBonne and is the same explicit as "Mr. Meteorite," believed in a headphones interview Tuesday that normally meteorites are non-toxic and that the course on the lake depends on the position of the object.
"I restrict been hunting meteorites for 15 sparkle. I cut them, they are not harmful," believed Mr. Garcia.
According to Mr. Garcia, they are not radioactive and not serious in any way.
Mr. Garcia believed that a meteor that produces 20-pound meteorites would bodyguard to a omnipresent convenient, next a detonation. "It attitude smash and it is very loud. People restrict believed it sounds next a push departure by their set," believed Mr. Garcia.
