Two Grants Pass residents say they also saw something in the sky the night of February 15th 2013. They claim it wasn't an asteroid or meteorite but an UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECT. It's hard to make out much of anything in the original video. But after NBC 5 added a special filter to make the light more visible you can clearly see something was in the sky over Grants Pass Friday night. Scherffius and Gregory Soldner say they just happened to look outside around 10:30 at night and say they've never seen anything quite like this. "It looked like a metal disk of some sort. I'm not sure, but it was metal and the way it moved was wierd. I mean I don't believe in flying saucers but" explained Soldner. The two claim the object stayed in one spot for several minutes and then made a few sporadic movements. "It moved up and down, back to one spot and then zigzaged a bit. It was there like 20-30 minutes and then it was just gone!" NBC 5 contacted the FAA to find out if any other sightings were reported or if they knew of any aircraft flying over Grants Pass around that time. Because of the holiday weekend, staff was limited but they told them very few ufo's are actually reported and an investigation into what was flying over Grants Pass will begin on Tuesday. CUMBRIA was once a hotbed of UFO activity, boasting everything from spacemen and flying saucers to strange flying triangles and visits by mysterious 'men in black'.

Chris Parr, co-ordinator of the Whitehaven-based British Hunters, describes his top four UFO cases in the county - and some of the theories behind them.

The Cumberland Spaceman: May 23, 1964: Carlisle fireman Jim Templeton took three pictures with his SLR camera of his daughter on a day trip to Burgh Marsh.

The photographs came back from Kodak with one of them showing what appears to be a space-suited humanoid in the background.

Chris says: "This case is legendary around the world. Analysts at Kodak confirmed that the photograph was genuine, some UFO experts have linked it to the Blue Streak missile tests which were ongoing nearby when the photograph was taken."

The Coniston UFO

February 15, 1954: A 13-year-old Ulverston schoolboy, Steven Darbishire, photographed a flying saucer on a hill near the Old Man footpath in Coniston, but it was a fake.

Chris says: "This was the ultimate schoolboy prank. The image of a classic flying saucer, resulted in a media frenzy and UFO fascination which Darbishire felt he had to support."

The Windermere UFO August 28, 1977: Ten police officers and numerous witnesses observed a huge triangular UFO passing over Windermere over a 20-minute period. Witness John Platt said: "I was looking up into what appeared to be a giant catamaran with twin hulls and a large structure at the front."

Chris's theory is that it was an airship.

He says: "Throughout the 1970s, a large number of Airship UFOs were reported flying over the Cumbrian skies. Sometimes they were as big as a football field."

The Mysterious Flying Triangles

Throughout the late 1980s, Cumbria was the host to many visitations of the Flying Triangles. Sometimes these craft were described as being black and sleek in design, with the ability to accelerate at great speed.

What You Don't Know, Will Kill You! "Out There..." is where stoner comedy meets paranormal thriller, a movie project here in Colorado derived from the creative mind of Bonne' Bartron with Angry Puppy Productions. Bonne' grew up in a Military environment and spent most of her youthful life moving across the USA and Europe. Her father, a highly decorated career Green Beret and very supportive mother gave her the freedom she needed to pursue personal goals which included making movies. Her uncle Bill Martin, is well-known for writing the classic film and one of my favorites, "Harry and the Henderson's", the story of an urban family befriending a Bigfoot which moves in with them and...well if you haven't seen it, then you need to, take it from a Bigfoot investigator, so yes, the movie industry is in Bonne's DNA. With a lifelong passion for film, music, and cinema magic, she moved to Los Angeles California in 2007 to pursue her dream by learning from professional filmmakers. 6 years rolls by with thousands of production hours and five original screenplays under her belt, she decided to venture back home near Colorado Springs to make Out There... in the State that inspired this comedic paranormal thriller, and bring it to life. (Excerpt from OutThere's information page on kickstarter.com) Out There features actual UFO and Cattle Mutilation sites! It was originally funded by 2 different producers at different times, but as it often does, circumstances put the pause button on us! (Or was it a conspiracy?) So, this time we decided to bring it to kickstarter.com and put it in the hands of the people! What put the pause on the project was Los Angeles backers wanted to shoot the film in Northern California for convenience, but Bonne' disagreed, the events in the script occur in Colorado, so the film needs to be shot in Colorado for legitimacy. She wants to film at actual areas depicted in the script, where UFOs were sighted and animal mutilations occurred, thus giving the film a vision of reality. Most writer/director/producers take the easy way out, but Bonne' decided to turn down the plastics of Hollywood for the landscapes of Colorado. When I found out about this project from a member on the UFOnut team, I contacted Bonne' and offered my assistance to help her develop the animal mutilation sequence so it appears as real as possible. My intention is to raise public awareness into this strange phenomenon by educating the public showing them what's actually involved with these cases. Well it appeared Bonne' and I were on the same page because she too wants to make the mutilation sequence as authentic as possible. Uhh.. without killing an actual animal. Then I remembered I had samples left over from two previous investigations and offered them to Bonne' to be used as movie props. One sample is soil taken from a mutilation case in 2012 and the other sample is bio, a small piece of hide cut from the animal on a 2011 investigation. What's so significant about these two samples are, even though they are a year apart, they are exactly one year apart and occurred with the same rancher! This is truly unique and mysterious. Bonn'e then decided to help fund her movie project; she would use the specimens as props and offer these two donated samples as prizes for supporting the project delivering them after the movie is completed. As fate would dictate, the bio-specimen was taken from an unknown circular wound from the anal area. Now you have to understand this is a science fiction comedy which will feature a piece of ass from a cow. Yep the project is already having fun with that remark on their website as a reward feature. I didn't consider using the bio-specimen for analysis because it was contaminated by air leaking into the container in which it lays soaking in formalin, so yes it smells like ass. The soil samples are in two small containers with one sample taken near the animal and the other sample taken from a test location. What's significant about the soil samples are, the animal was lying in the middle of a 15 to 16 foot circular ground depression. Previous samples I had analyzed under these types of conditions showed the soil was less soluble near the animal inside the circle compared to the test sample taken outside the circle. So the soil being auctioned off could actually show abnormalities in the soil nutrients. Even though this movie has lighthearted moments there will be nothing light hearted about the mutilation sequences, or the terrifying truth behind what's "Out There."... The audience will be in for one wild ride. Bonne' and I are very serious about the mutilation phenomenon and it will appear that way on the film. With an estimate of 10,000 mutilation's which have occurred (reported by George Knapp), this is the number one animal cruelty cold case in history. No one has ever been caught, tried, or convicted. BACKGROUND

WHAT STARTED OUT AS A USUAL EVENING IN FLATWOODS, WV ON SEPTEMBER 12, 1952 WOULD PROVE TO BE ANYTHING BUT USUAL FOR SOME OF THE LOCALS. FOUR BOYS PLAYING FOOTBALL IN THE SCHOOLYARD WITNESSED WHAT COULD ONLY BE DESCIBED AS A "SHOOTING STAR". THE BOYS, HOWEVER, KNEW WHAT THEY SAW WAS, BY NO MEANS, A SHOOTING STAR.

THE OBJECT APPEARED TO HAVE CRASHED ON A NEARBY PROPERTY KNOWN AS THE BAILEY FISHER PROPERTY, AND AS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WHEN YOU GET A GROUP OF YOUNG, CURIOUS CHILDREN TOGETHER, THEY DECIDED TO MAKE THE TREK TOGETHER TO SEE WHAT HAD FALLEN FROM THE SKY AND APPARENTLY LANDED ON THE BAILEY FISHER HOMESTEAD. ALONG THE WAY THEY COLLECTED KATHLEEN MAY AND HER TWO SONS, WHO EAGERLY ACCOMPANIED THEM TO THE PURPORTED CRASH SITE.

THE CRASH SITE

AS THE SEVEN APPROACHED THE SITE AND NIGHT FELL, IT BECAME FOGGY WITH MIST AND THERE WAS A METALLIC OR SULFURIC SMELL ACCORDING TO MRS. MAY. AS THEY CRESTED THE HILL THAT LAY BETWEEN THEM AND THE CRASH SITE, THEY SAW AN OBJECT THAT WAS GLOWING AND HISSING, AND AS THEY APPROACHED THE SITE, THEY AGREED THAT THE OBJECT WAS ABOUT 10 FEET IN DIAMETER. THEY ALSO NOTICED JUST A FEW FEET AWAY, TWO GLOWING OBJECTS THAT RESEMBLED THE DULL GLOW OF A FLASHLIGHT.

THE BRAXTON COUNTY MONSTER

ONE OF THE CURIOUS ONLOOKERS HAD A FLASHLIGHT AND WHEN HE POINTED IT AT THE OBJECT, WHAT HAS BECOME KNOWN AS THE "BRAXTON COUNTY MONSTER" WAS SEEN. THE DESCRIPTION WAS AS FOLLOWS: "...A BRIGHT RED FACE, BRIGHT GREEN CLOTHING, A HEAD WHICH RESEMBLED THE ACE OF SPADES, AND CLOTHING WHICH, FROM THE WAIST DOWN, HUNG IN GREAT FOLDS". THE MONSTER'S BODY WAS DESCRIBED AS BEINGMAN-SHAPED AND CLAD IN A DARK PLEATED SKIRT; LATER DESCRIBED AS BEING GREEN. SOME ACCOUNTS RECORD THAT THE CREATURE HAD NO VISIBLE ARMS, WHILE OTHERS DESCRIBE IT AS HAVING SHORT STUBBY ARMS; ENDING IN LONG CLAW-LIKE FINGERS, WHICH PROTRUDED FROM THE FRONT OF ITS BODY. IT SEEMED TO BE FLOATING ABOVE THE GROUND TOWARDS THEM. FRIGHTENED BY THIS SPECTACLE THE GROUP DISPERSED, BUT EVENTUALLY ENDED UP BACK AT MRS. MAY'S HOME AND PHONED THE SHERRIFF.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, THE SHERIFF, ROBERT CARR, AND HIS DEPUTY WERE TIED UP ON ANOTHER INVESTIGATION OF A REPORTED BURNING OBJECT SUSPECTED TO BE A DOWNED AIRPLANE. BY THE TIME THEY COULD ARRIVE AT THE SCENE, MUCH EVIDENCE WAS DESTROYED BY CURIOUS ONLOOKERS.

ATTEMPTS TO DEBUNK

SO; WHAT IS TO BE MADE OF THE COUNTLESS EYEWITNESS REPORTS OF THE "BRAXTON COUNTY MONSTER"? OFFICIAL REPORTS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. ONE POSSIBLE EXPLANATION COMES FROM A LOCAL INSURANCE SALESMAN AND SELF PROCLAIMED "AMATURE ASTRONOMER", EARL STEPHENS. IT IS HIS OPINION THAT THE "BRAXTON COUNTY MONSTER" WAS, IN FACT, A METEOR, COMMONLY CALLED A FIREBALL, THAT ORIGINATED IN THE OUTER ATMOSTPHERE, FORMING A GASTEROUS BALL. STEPHENS BACKS UP HIS THEORY WITH THE FACT THAT THE EARTH ENTERED A METEORIC STREAM IN AUGUST OF THAT YEAR.

I AM NOT A SCIENTIST, PROFESSIONAL OR OTHERHWISE, SO WITH THE LACK OF OFFICAL REPORTS, I CAN ONLY RELY ON A HANDFUL OF EYEWITNESS REPORTS AND AN OPINION OF AN AMATURE ASTONOMER, AS THAT IS ALL THERE IS AVAILABLE FOR ME TO PONDER. I'LL LET YOU DECIDE FOR YOURSELVES.

"With our current measurement strategy for life on other planets, we will only be able to detect life which shares most of its parameters with terrestrial life," astrobiologist Johannes Leitner of the University of Vienna, who presented his research Friday at the European Planetary Science Congress in Germany, wrote in an e-mail. "Presently we will not be able to detect exotic life, because we have no idea of its potential properties and by this, our probes to planetary surfaces do not carry instruments which can look for something exotic." For instance, Leitner said, we can send rovers to Mars carrying antibodies that detect traces of chemicals and bacteria that would indicate life. But because we can only make antibodies to known substances, this method will be limited to finding Earth-like life. "When we try to find a definition for life, in most cases, such a definition is more a summary of the specific properties of terrestrial life," Leitner said. Because life on Earth requires water, most of the search for extraterrestrial life thus far has focused on the "habitable zone," or the relatively narrow region around a star where liquid water could exist. But while water is liquid only between zero and 100 degrees Celsius, other solvents are liquid over a much larger temperature range. For instance, because ammonia stays liquid at a lower temperature, an ocean of ammonia could exist on a planet much further from its host star.
