DUGWAY PROVING GROUND - Security at this military testing facility has been increased after a meteor was spotted over Utah, and believed to have crashed here, authorities told Fox 13 News.

Dugway officials insist they have no evidence that a meteor spotted over Utah early Tuesday actually crashed here, but that hasn't stopped them from being blitzed with phone calls and speculation that's where the space rock is.

"We have had a large number of calls," said Paula Nicholson, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army facility. "However, we don't have any indication at all that it did land on Duway. We have some high-powered radar and nothing has shown that anything at all crashed."

Dugway has a reputation for being mysterious. Approximately 1,300 square miles, the facility tests biological, chemical and munitions for the military. The mystery surrounding some of its projects has earned it the nickname "Area 52."

To add to the mystery, shortly after the meteor flashed across the sky, several military helicopters took off from Airport No. 2 in West Jordan headed toward Dugway. The Utah National Guard confirmed it, but insisted there was no conspiracy -- just a training exercise.

Since the meteor, Nicholson said she has received numerous phone calls about UFOs and people seeking to get on the grounds to search for space rock. Earlier this week, security confronted a man who wandered too close of one of Dugway's borders.

"We do have heavy security right now," Nicholson said.

"Is this increased lately or is this aside from what you'd typically find at Dugway?" Fox 13's Ben Winslow asked her.

"Maybe a little but more because of the meteorite interest," she replied.

Nicholson said there is concern for public safety because the testing range has some unexploded ordinances on it, which is why the military is vigilant about keeping people out.

"We are certainly not searching for it. We do have a large security force and we've had no reports from any of them or any of our employees of anything they've found," she said.

While astronomers have said that the meteor may have crashed near Granite Peak, Nicholson suggested it may be further south -- outside of Dugway. One man showed up at Fox 13's studios on Friday carrying a large rock he found in southwestern Tooele County. He said he was looking for arrowheads when he found the rock.

"At the base of the hill, right at the edge of the snow, there was this -- sitting in the mud," the man, who did not want his identity revealed, said.

The rock, which is black and polished, was out of place for the area it was found. Asked if he believed it was a piece of meteor, the man replied: "I hope so."

Time: Evening.

My husband and I are sitting on the porch tonight and I said, "turn around!" There were about 9 bright red lights in a cluster.

He saw about 6, but he looked after I did. They were all flying really close together paired up in 3s, I think and patterned.

They were flying up at an angle high in the sky south west part. We watched for about 40 seconds maybe, and ran to the other side of the house to catch them and they were gone!

Military drill? Who knows, but I've never looked into UFOs until tonight! Too fun. Sincerely, your witnesses in Granite Falls, North Carolina.

UFO SIGHTING IN JOPLIN, MISSOURI ON JULY 1ST 2013 - OBSERVED TWO GLOWING ORBS IN SKY.

On July 1 2013 in Joplin Missouri I got home around 930. I let my dogs out and was standing on my deck when I looked up and saw what I thought was an airplane on fire. It looked about the same distance I have noticed small aircraft flying maybe 10000 feet. It began to hover. No movement or sound. I ran to get my binoculars. When I got back it began moving in an arc toward the South. While I was watching it another appeared in the same location as the first. I then looked at it and was able to see with the binoculars 4 black round spots in the center of the red and yellow glow. The 2nd one then moved in the exact same arc and then stopped above the first and was still. The first then just disappeared from few and soon after so did the second. I am a professional intelligent grown woman who saw something I can't explain. It wasn't fireworks or chinese lanterns. I have lived long enough to know the difference. I have since googled this and found there are people all over the world who have experienced this. I think about it often as I am the type of person who wants to know the answer but perhaps there is none. The entire episode was approx. 10 minutes.

One must always pay a visit to Ms. LINDA MOULTON HOWE'S website "EARTHFILES.COM" at least once a week. Due to some personal issues in my life, I have been a slacker to that rule. But now I am making up for it and with good reason. You must check this one out.

Ms. Howe received a email from someone calling themselves Ovi who took some amazing photographs of a zeppelin or cigar-shape UFO on November 27, 2008. Time of the sighting was about 8 pm. Its worth it go click on the link to read and view those photographs. Ovi estimated that it was almost 100 feet in length and was cruising at a slow rate of speed. Pay attention to photo number 9 that they cropped and enlarged. One end, the narrower end is discharging what looks like sparks. There is also something on top of the hull - and for a lack of a better word, I'll refer to it as a conning tower (like on a submarine).

Space scientists in Russia are preparing to boldly go where no man has gone before, except for the actor Bruce Willis.

The head of the Russian space agency said today that it was considering a Hollywood-style mission to send a spacecraft to bump a large asteroid from a possible collision course with Earth.

Anatoly Perminov told the Russian radio station Golos Rossii: "People's lives are at stake. We should pay several hundred million dollars and build a system that would allow us to prevent a collision, rather than sit and wait for it to happen and kill hundreds of thousands of people."

The mission would be aimed at an asteroid called Apophis, he said, which is expected to pass close to the Earth in 2029 and again in 2036. "Calculations show that it's possible to create a special-purpose spacecraft within the time we have, which would help avoid the collision. The threat of collision can be averted."

The Hollywood action films Deep Impact and Armageddon both featured space missions scrambling to avert catastrophic collisions, the latter led by Willis.

But the creation of a system to deflect asteroids has long been the subject of scientific debate. Some experts have proposed sending a probe to circle around a dangerous asteroid and gradually change its trajectory. Others suggested sending a spacecraft to collide with it and alter its momentum, or using nuclear weapons.

Perminov said details of the project still needed to be worked out. But he said the agency would invite Nasa, the European Space Agency and others to participate.

When Apophis was discovered in 2004, astronomers made headlines when they said there was a one in 37 chance that the 350-metre-wide rock would collide with Earth in 2029. Further studies ruled out such an impact, but there remains a one in 250,000 chance it could strike in 2036.

Perminov said he had heard from a scientist that Apophis is getting closer and may hit the planet. "I don't remember exactly, but it seems to me it could hit the Earth by 2032," he said.

Nasa has estimated that if the asteroid hit the Earth, it would release more than 100,000 times the energy released in the nuclear blast over Hiroshima. Thousands of square miles would be directly affected by the blast but the whole of the Earth would see the effects of the dust released into the atmosphere.

Nasa experts have already discussed the option of landing an astronaut on an asteroid to test whether it could develop techniques to deflect a doomsday rock.

Breaking it up with an atomic warhead could generate thousands of smaller objects on a similar course, which could have time to re-form. Scientists agree the best approach, given enough time, would be to nudge the object into a safer orbit.

Matt Genge, a space researcher at Imperial College London, has calculated that something with the mass, acceleration and thrust of a small car could push an asteroid weighing a billion tonnes out of the path of Earth in just 75 days.

Perminov said: "We will soon hold a closed meeting of our collegium, the science-technical council, to look at what can be done. "There won't be any nuclear explosions. Everything will be done according to the laws of physics."

Are you a hardware hacker? Do you have the Right Stuff to become a citizen scientist or citizen astronaut? Here's your chance to find out.

Citizen scientists and hardware hackers will learn how to do "space on the cheap" at the first Space Hacker Workshop for Suborbital Experiments. Participants at the two-day workshop will learn how they can build and fly experiments in space, and even fly in space as citizen astronauts, through the Citizens in Space program.

The Space Hacker Workshop takes place May 4-5 at the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View, California, across the street (literally) from NASA Ames Research Center. The workshop is sponsored by Citizens in Space, a project of the United States Rocket Academy, and the Silicon Valley Space Center.

Citizens in Space has purchased 10 flights on the XCOR Lynx spacecraft, now under construction at the Mojave Air and Space Port, which will be made available to the citizen-science community.

"We're looking for 100 citizen-science experiments and 10 citizen astronauts to fly as payload operators," Citizens in Space project manager Edward Wright said. "This is a chance for citizen scientists to develop and test new technologies, like bioreactors and 3D printing, in zero gravity; to collect microorganisms from the extreme upper atmosphere; to experiment with new processes for creating new materials; and do many more cool things. The Space Hacker Workshop will provide participants with information and skills needed to take advantage of our free flight opportunities."

"Space is no longer the exclusive domain of NASA and university scientists," said Dr. Sean Casey, co-founder of the Silicon Valley Space Center. "Citizen scientists can build and fly fully functioning experiments for a few hundred dollars or less, thanks to technology developed here in Silicon Valley. With components available at Radio Shack or Fry's Electronics, citizen scientists can build instruments and experiments with more power than a NASA satellite from a few years back."

"Commercial spaceflight is the next high-tech revolution, making space a participatory frontier," said Dr. Alexander Saltman, executive director of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation. "This event will tap into the creative spirit that has made Silicon Valley a center of innovation for decades."

The Space Hacker Workshop will provide hands-on exposure to a variety of microcontrollers, sensors, imaging systems, and other components. With these components, participants will learn how to design and build microgravity, fluid-physics, life-science, and engineering experiments.

Infinity Aerospace, which is developing the open-source ArduLab for low-cost space experiments, will be on hand to discuss the use of ArduLab hardware as a development platform. Also on hand will be representatives of XCOR Aerospace, which is building the fully reusable Lynx suborbital spacecraft, and NASA Ames Research Center.

Khaki Rodway of XCOR Aerospace will discuss the capabilities and requirements of the Lynx spacecraft. A panel of experts from NASA and industry will discuss research professional scientists have done in the past, prospects for new research on low-cost vehicles such as the Lynx, and opportunities for citizen scientists to build on the shoulders of NASA giants. Project manager Edward Wright will be on hand to discuss Citizens in Space flight opportunities for experiments and citizen astronauts, including an exclusive glimpse at citizen-astronaut training activities planned for this summer. Admission for the event is 150 at the door, but early-bird tickets are available now for 100. Tickets are limited and the event may sell out. 2013 SIGHTING: UFO SIGHTING IN EVANSVILLE, INDIANA ON JUNE 8TH 2013 - PHOTO TAKEN WITH AUTO TIMER

I was home alone with my twins and I decided to set up camera to take some pictures of star trails. The twins were watching their movie so I went out back and set up camera. I know I didnt get in focus and had high iso on it but(found this out later) but one of the twins wanted to come out so I set my timer anyways for 5 sec photos(400 photos total). When I was scrolling through them on camera I noticed this picture. I really do not know if this is a camera fluke or is something unidentified. I live next to an airport but I know what a airplane looks like in my photos. I have taken many star trail photos. The picture before has nothing and the picture after has nothing. I hope someone can give me some answers. I am attaching all 3 photos. Will send more of the 400 if need be. img 4607 is the one in question. 4606 and 4608 are the before and after. It has 2 green orbs in the sky. From the picture it looks as if one is completely stationary because there is no trail on in since its a 5 second video. Hope for some insight. Thank you very much.
