Cassini Sees Saturn Rings Casting Shadows
Saturn's necklaces cast sinister on the planet, except their sinister appear to be axis out! The boundary of the extreme A chink can be seen at the top finished hole of the image. Shipping towards the band of the junior, one can see the flexible Cassini Group of students, the chalky B chink and the incoming C chink, which contains numerous ringlets that appear gloomy against Saturn in this geometry. The band half of the image appearance the sinister of these necklaces in upset undeviating superposed against the circumnavigate of the planet: the C chink, the B chink, the Cassini Group of students and the chief half of the A chink.

This watchdog looks headed for the unilluminated side of the necklaces from about 28 degrees below the ringplane. The image was eventful with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on Dec. 2, 2013 by means of a ghastly drip which preferentially admits wavelengths of near-infrared light centered at 752 nanometers.

The watchdog was acquired at a outer space of something like 750,000 miles (1.2 million kilometers) from Saturn and at a Sun-Saturn-spacecraft, or epoch, angle of 57 degrees. Phantom basic is 45 miles (72 kilometers) per pixel.

The Cassini-Huygens commission is a hutch project of NASA, the European Break into Administration and the Italian Break into Administration. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a cut of the California Present of Technology in Pasadena, manages the commission for NASA's Science Predict Directorate in Washington. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were assumed, full-grown and assembled at JPL. The imaging organization is based at the Break into Science Present, Pit, Colo.
